Obituary of Elizabeth Hanley
Elizabeth A. Hanley passed away on March 1st, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Born in Granville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Susie (Moschek) Smetana and was the wife of the late William J. Hanley Sr.
Elizabeth was a communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet. A woman of great faith and a serious prayer warrior, Elizabeth will be remembered for her dedication to her family and always being available to lend a hand or give some advice.After graduating from Granville High School, Elizabeth was employed as a secretary at GE in Schenectady. After she married William, she was employed by Great Meadows Prison, Comstock, New York in the administrative offices. Later the family moved to Watervliet, New York where she was employed at Tek Hughes. She later cared for some of her grandchildren as well as her great granddaughter.
Survivors include her children, Suzanne (late Roland) Bennett, Ellen (Tim) Van Olpen, William (Jacqueline) Hanley Jr., and Martin (Mary) Hanley; Grandchildren, Audrey (Patrick) Marks, Michele (Barbara Toll) Van Olpen, Stephen Bennett, Erin (Lyle) Galante and Kevin Hanley. Elizabeth is also survived by her great grandchildren April (Chris) Robert, Matthew Marks, Rachel Galante, Janelle Galante, Aidan Toll, great, great granddaughter Carley Robert and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Elizabeth was predeceased by her grandsons Mark Bennett and Mark Van Olpen, siblings Anna Pyenta, Steve Smetana, Mary Sheloski, Helen Babich, Theresa Keane and Susan Stark.
A special thank you to the Watervliet Fire Department and the Samaritan Hospital, especially the 6th floor staff and Community Hospice for the wonderful care given to Elizabeth. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart Church, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Konicek & Collett Funeral Home, LLC, 1855 12th Avenue, Watervliet on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m..
