Won Sic Ju

Won Sic Ju, 77, of Albany, NY and Ganghwado, South Korea passed away on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023.

Won was the son of the late Young Eun Ju and Kong Lim Lee. He was born in 1946. He graduated with a master's from Han Yang University and briefly pursued a PhD from Oklahoma University in 1982. Won, with his wife and daughter ultimately decided to make America their home and resided in the New York Metropolitan area before their recent move to Albany to be with their daughter Jodi.

Won was a nationally respected professor in Korea who authored the first 10 volumes of a treatise on mechanical engineering, including translations from Japanese into Korean, and he created multiple engineering workbooks of his own, all of which are still used today.

Won also taught at universities across the peninsula, and used jokes and humor to help students get through some of his toughest classes.

After his arrival in the New York area in the late 80s, he became a business owner in Brooklyn, NY. and was self- employed until his retirement.

Won provided an endless source of wisdom, grace, wit, humor, and grit. He carried a sense of calm that his peers not only gravitated to, but also respected. He will be missed greatly.

Won is survived by his wife Young Sook Ju, his daughter Jodi Hyun Ju, Jeremy, and son James Ju, and Juyoung, as well as his three grandchildren whom he loved very much: Sean Ju, Isaiah TaeJu Manning, and Ciel Ju.

Visitation will start at 3:30pm and services will be held at 5 p.m. August 6th, 2023, at Albany Sarang Korean Church 410 23rd St, Watervliet, NY 12189. All are invited. Please note that the service will be in Korean.

Donations will be received at church as is customary for a Korean reception.
