Robert W. Hahn of East Greenbush, NY died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at St. Peters Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Doctors William H. Hahn and Katharine B. Hahn and husband for 55 years to Barbara Tolles Hahn. He lived in South Orange, N.J. until his marriage then settled in Cranford, N.J. and then East Greenbush, N.Y. He graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood/South Orange N.J. and attended Fairleigh-Dickenson and Wagner Colleges. He served in the Army from 1953-1955 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and in France. He worked for Executive Press, Inc. in New York City, a family business and Bay City Mortgage Corporation.
In 1947 he went to his first hockey game, and became an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and Bobby Hull. He loved boardgaming and looked forward to participating in the BPA World Boardgaming Championship every year. He also enjoyed playing golf, especially with his Grandson. Travel was a big part of his life, especially with his wife and girls when they were young; camping and train trips. For their 25th wedding anniversary a trip to Hawaii. Australia and New Zealand became an every year occurance to see their daughter, her husband and his granddaughters Heather May and Katie. This was a good escape from NY winters. All his life, Bailey Island, Maine was the destination, a place he will always hold close at heart. Attending his grandson Erik's hockey games and granddaughter Jesann's dance competitions was always a favorite activity.
He was active in the Episcopal Church singing in the choir at the Church of the Holy Communion in South Orange, NJ; on Vestry at St. Thomas Church, Newark, NJ and the Church of Ascension in Troy. He served as an Eucharistic Minister at both Ascension and Trinty Church's. At St. Paul's in Westfield, NJ, he served on the Stephen Ministryand Vestry.
Survivors in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Beverly Prashaw (Matthew) of East Greenbush, NY and Diane Taylor (Maurice) of Tapawera, New Zealand. Four grandchildren, Erik Prashaw (Marissa), Jesann Prashaw, Heather May Taylor and Katherine Taylor. A brother, William B. Hahn; Sister, Katharine Fulker (Roger) and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at Trinity Church, 1336 1st Avenue, Watervliet, Monday, March 9th, between 9:30-10:30 a.m.. A Funeral Mass will follow with Reverend Martin Wendell, officiating. Interment in Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family would like to also extend its heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at St. Peters Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their caring and love given to Bob and his family.
