Dr. Lei Zhu PhD., 60, passed away unexpectedly at her Glenmont home on May 14, 2024 to the shock of her family.
Lei graduated from Columbia University in 1991 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. After completing her postdoctoral fellowship as an Enrico Fermi Scholar at Argonne National Laboratory in 1993, she joined Wadsworth Center, NY Dept of Health and subsequently the faculty at the University at Albany. Over the course of her 30+ years' career, she made significant contributions to the field of atmospheric chemistry and achieved the rank of full Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, at the University at Albany's School of Public Health. From 2015 to 2016, she served on the National Academies' Committee on the Future of Atmospheric Chemistry Research.
Lei is survived by son Anthony, mother Yuzhu, brothers Yong and Ben, and sister Wen.
Family and friends are invited to visit Lei's family and celebrate Lei's life on Thursday May 23rd from 4 to 6:45 pm in the Konicek & Collett Funeral Home LLC 1855 12th Avenue Watervliet. A brief service will start at 5:45pm and visitation will continue following the service.
