Edith M. Laviano

d. May 25, 2021

TROY Edith M. Laviano, 88, died May 25, 2021, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on February 1, 1933, in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late John J. Mackey and Mary F. Taggart Mackey, and the wife of the late Vincent J. Laviano. Edith was a graduate of Troy High School. She was employed at Niagara Mohawk, New York Telephone Company, Grand Union, and Garden Way, and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Edith was an avid reader, gardener, and traveler. She loved animals, even training the neighborhood squirrels to eat from her hand. Her absolute love in life, however, was her grandchildren. She attended every dance recital, football, softball, baseball, and hockey game, every cheerleading event, every graduation or other school event, and was present at every birthday. Edith is survived by a brother, William Mackey (Lena) of Daytona Beach, FL; her two sons, Daniel and Paul (Carmella) Laviano, of Troy; five grandchildren Angela Fuller (Joseph Reehl) of Melrose, Vincent Laviano (Morgan Wallace) of Charleston, SC, Nicholas (Katherine Better), Paul, and James Laviano, of Troy; three great-granddaughters, Ava and Giuliana Fuller, and Madelyn Reehl; a brother-in-law, Louis Caprara of Latham; and several nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Lawrence, Patrick, John “Jack”, and Daniel Mackey, a sister, Patricia Caprara, and sister-in-law Marilyn Mackey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edith’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
