Carol Frances Ashley, age 79, died peacefully in the presence of her family at her home on Saturday September 3. Carol was born in Elizabeth, NJ to Francis and Marion Ames Oexle, where she grew up with her older sisters Joanne Oexle and Claire Richards. She attended Iona Colllege where she received her Accounting degree. Her first job out of high school was with Shell Oil in Manhattan. On November 9th, 1963 in Kew Gardens, NY she married Charles Ashley the love of her life. They raised their two sons, Christopher and Andrew with great pride and love in Bronxville, NY where she also served as the business manager of the Dutch Reformed Church. They later moved to Albany, NY to be near their six beloved grandchildren.
Carol was filled with joy that was infectious, and as a Christian, fully embraced the teachings of Jesus Christ and always seemed to find a way to spread His love. Carol was a member of the Loudonville Community Church. In her final years with us Carol's faith, love for all her friends, care givers and family sustained her. After her stroke in 2018, which left her paralyzed and unable to speak fluidly, she was able to return home and advocate for her husband, Charles, until his death in 2019. In the years since that time, she was able to live again with hope and joy until the time of her death.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws: Christoper and Maria and Andrew and Donna as well as her six grandchildren: James, Teddy, Charlotte, Henry, Quintin and Emilia. A memorial service will be held at Loudonville Community Church in Loudonville, NY on September 24, at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: The College of Saint Rose/Pauline K. Winkler Center where Carol spent many happy hours in the care of dedicated speech pathologists who did all they could to treat the soul of each person in their care, and not just their affliction.
